Celebrations of Derby’s most famous painter, Joseph Wright (1734-1797), culminate at the end of February
in a three-day festival to mark the opening of Derby Museum and Art Gallery’s newly refurbished
Joseph Wright Gallery.

Joseph Wright was not only a painter of the first rank, but also a keen musician.
Join us for a mixture of music he might have played and heard, including:
Flute Sonata in A by Derby musician Charles Denby
a flute quartet by JC Bach
Handel Zadok the Priest
and a new string quartet by Derby composer John Mackenzie inspired by Wright’s work.
